1.        Current Negative Coggins (within 12 months) must be presented upon entering the

show grounds.

2.     Protective headgear must be worn when mounted.

3.     Appropriate tack and attire are requested in all classes.

4.     The judge’s decision is final.

5.     NO DOGS ALLOWED!  (for everyone’s safety)

6.     This is an Open Horse Show. Everyone is Welcome!

7.     Each participant must sign an equine waiver form.

8.     The show committee reserves the right to refuse any entry or to combine, change,

divide and/or cancel any classes.

9.      Classes will be judged according to the State 4-H Horse Show Rulebook.

10.    The Virginia Cooperative Extension Office,  Golden Horseshoe  4-H Club and the Frederick County Fair Association will not be held responsible for injuries to horses, riders or spectators or for damage or theft of property.

11.     Virginia Cooperative Extension programs and employment are open to all, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, veteran status, national origin, disability, or political affiliation.  If you are a person with a disability and require auxiliary aids, services, or other accommodations for this event, please discuss your needs with VCE at (540) 665-5699 two weeks prior to the event.

12.     A two-minute gate call will be enforced.

13.     Good sportsmanship and horsemanship will be enforced.

14.     No alcoholic beverages permitted.

15.     Ribbons to 6th place.

16.     The following definitions will apply:

Leadline:            8 years or under  as of 9/30/2019

Green Horse:      Horses first or second year of showing

Beginner:            Rider Showing in first or second show

Junior:                9 – 13 years as of 9/30/2019

Senior:                14 – 19 years as of 9/30/2019

Open:                  All Ages

DIRECTIONS To get to the Frederick County Fairgrounds in Winchester, VA, just take I-81 to Exit 317 (Stephenson), go North onto U.S. Route 11 (Martinsburg Pike), and drive for about 2.7 miles. The fairgrounds are on the left.

VA Association of Fairs Youth Leadership Awards Print E-mail


The Virginia Association of Fairs sponsors a contest each year for all 4-H and FFA members who have participated in their local VAF Fair.  The contest goals are to recognize superior leadership characteristics among junior members of the Association and the industry.  To encourage and develop leadership and speaking skills so that they will be able to serve their local boards, the industry, and their local communities. The contest information packet is updated and distributed September 1 of each year and entries are due the first Friday of December.

Prizes, in the form of scholarships, are as follows:

1st place - $2500.00

2nd place -  1500.00

3rd place -   1000.00

4th place -   1000.00

5th place -     500.00

6th place -     500.00

1. All contestants and visitors assume full responsibility for damages or loss to persons or property, from all and every clause whatsoever.  The Frederick County Fair Association incurs no liability or obligation at any time.

2. Contestants for each event will register 15 minutes prior to the event.

3. In case of a large number of entries, a limited number of participants will be drawn from a hat.

4. Events may be rescheduled or cancelled due to the weather.

5. All contestants will receive participation ribbons.

6. Contestants are not required to be residents of Frederick County or the City of Winchester.

7. All matters not covered by the instructions will be settled by the event chairperson.  All decisions of the judges are final.
