The 43rd Annual Frederick County Fair Market Steer Sale was held on Friday,

August 3, 2018.

Nineteen steers totaling 24.495 pounds were sold at a gross income of $81,622.05.  The average price was $3.33 per pound.

The Frederick County Fair Association and the youth of 4-H and FFA deeply appreciate the continuing support of the many individuals and businesses who expressed their interest in the youth of our community

1.    All Market Beef are to be owned and cared for by the exhibitor as of December 1, 2018.  Tagging of the Market Beef will be December 1, 2018 from 8 am to 10 am at the Frederick County Fair Grounds.  One dollar will be charged per animal tagged.  Multiple animals may be tagged but exhibitors are limited to showing two (2) market steers.

2.    ALL GENERAL LIVESTOCK RULES WILL APPLY TO BEEF EXHIBITORS.   PLEASE READ!

  1. Exhibitors may bring in bedding and set up equipment Sunday only between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.  No Saturday set up is available.  All steers must be brought onto the fairgrounds from 7:30 am to 12:00 noon on Fair Monday. Animals will be weighed and graded on Fair Monday. No steers are to be washed from 12:00 noon until weigh-in is completed. Exhibitors must be present with their animals when weighed.
  2. Cattle must not be born prior to January of the previous year.
  3. Age of all heifers and steers will be checked.
  4. Market Beef will be shown by breed. Division of breed classes will be done by weight, if necessary by the Market Beef Chairpersons.
  5. All market beef cattle to be shown free of horns.  Should the animal have horns at the time of purchase, they should be dehorned as soon as possible to minimize stress to the animal.
  6. The Market Beef Chairpersons will decide the classification of breed and breed classes prior to the show.
  7. All heifers exhibited by 4-H and FFA members must be owned by and in the care of the exhibitor by the following dates according to age and show classifications. Beef breeding animals will be divided into classes by breed (individual purebred and commercial)

  1. Steers that do not grade Select and weight at least 1,000 pounds can show in their class but cannot compete in the championship class. The top animal in the class that meets the weight and grade requirements will represent that class in the championship.
  2. Grand Champion and Reserve Champion Steers must be sold.
  3. Market Beef must weigh at least 1,000 pounds and grade Select to be sold in the steer sale. There will be a $15.00 fee deducted from each animal sold to be used toward market steer sale publicity.
  4. The exhibitor will feed and care for their steer until the buyer or other persons authorized by the Fair removes it from the fairgrounds.
  5. The Market Beef Chairpersons and the Fair Association reserve the right to make any necessary changes during the Fair Week.
  6. All exhibitors must participate in showmanship. Animals exhibited in the Showmanship Class will be shown unfitted. Market Beef and breeding animals will be shown fitted in their confirmation class. Only the exhibitor and immediate family members (father, mother, brother, sister or other Frederick County 4-H or FFA member) may help in fitting an animal for the beef show. All animals must be fitted in the immediate beef barn area. Members of the beef committee will monitor the fitting of beef animals and any violations of these rules will result in disqualification from the show and sale.
  7. Any animal deemed “not broken” or unruly to the point of being a safety risk will be disqualified from the show and sale by the decision of the beef committee.
  8. The Market Beef Chairpersons and the Fair Association Livestock Committee reserve the right to view exhibitor’s animals from the tagging date until the opening of the Fair.
  9. Failure to abide by these rules will result in the disqualification of that individual and the animal(s) in question.  
  10. All Market Beet projects will be under the sole care and feeding of the exhibitor from the beginning to the end of the project.

Class 1212 – all Other Breeds market Steer class will consist of calves from any market steer class (excluding County Bred Steer Class) that does not have at least 3 entries.  For classes with less than 3 entries, chairpersons reserve the right to combine these entries/classes into this All Other Breeds Class.

Class 1213 – County Bred Market Steer is only for steers bred in Frederick County.  Final determination for eligibility will be determined by the Show Committee.

Class 1214 – All Market Heifers will show in one class and then compete for overall Grand and Reserve Market Beef.

2019 Market Goat Show And Sale Print E-mail

1.    All Market goats are to be owned and cared for by the exhibitor as of May 11, 2019.  Tagging of the goats will be May 11, 2019 from 8 am to 10 am at the Frederick County Fair Grounds.   All market goats must have their scrapie tag in their ear at the time of tagging or they will be unable to exhibit that goat in the fair.  Market goats must be born on or after November 1st of the current 4-H year.  One dollar will be charged per animal tagged.  Multiple animals may be tagged but exhibitors are limited to showing two (2) market goats.

2.    ALL GENERAL LIVESTOCK RULES WILL APPLY TO GOAT EXHIBITORS.   PLEASE READ!

3.    Due to regulations set by the National Scrapie Eradication Program, the Frederick County Fair will require that all goats be ear tagged with a tag provided by the USDA – APHIS in order to track goats under the National Scrapie Eradication Program.

4.    There will be no breeder’s ID Tags allowed in the market goat’s ears. If still in at check in, they will be replaced by the Fair’s tamper proof tag.

5.    If the scrapie tag has the breeder’s name or farm on them, they will not be removed.

6.    The market goat chairperson and the Fair Association livestock committee reserve the right to view exhibitor's animal from the tagging date until the opening of the fair.

7.    Goats may be wethers (neutered males) or does.

8.    For a goat to be considered a meat goat at the Frederick County Fair, the goat must be full blood or a cross containing any of the following breeds:  Boer, Kiko, Myotonic/Tennessee Fainting Goat, Spanish, or Brush.  Breeds that do not qualify include full blood or high percentage of dwarf/pygmy goats, dairy (Nubian, or Swiss), or Fiber (angora/cashmere).

9.    Exhibitors are limited to showing two (2) market goats.

10. All market goats must be dehorned or have the horn tips blunted.

11. Market goats are to be brought to the fairgrounds between the hours of 7:30 am and 12:00 noon on Fair Monday. A current health certificate must be shown to the barn official before any animal can be unloaded.

12. All market goats will be weighed and graded at the fair on Monday afternoon.  Exhibitors should be present when their animal is weighed.  Goats must weigh between 50 and 110 pounds, grade select or better and must be born on or after November 1st of the current 4-H year to qualify to show.  Goats must have their milk teeth and no permanent eruption of teeth.  NO RE-WEIGH.  There will be no allowances given in weight at weigh in time.

13. All goats must be shown with a collar.  No pinch collars will be allowed.

14. All market goats must be clipped one week prior to the show. There will be no clipping of market goats after arrival onto the fairgrounds. All goats must have been foot trimmed no more than 10 days before the fair.

15. Classes will be divided by weight, not breed.  All breeds will be shown together.  Classes will be determined the day of the show.

16.  All exhibitors are required to participate in showmanship classes.

17.  Lifting the front feet of goats off the ground during showmanship and market classes is not permitted. Goats will be shown with all four feet on the ground.

18. The Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion must be sold at the market animal auction on Friday.

19. To recognize goat buyers, $5.00 will be retained from the proceeds of each goat sold to purchase a newspaper advertisement and publicity.

20. Exhibitors are responsible for re-penning their goat after the sale. The exhibitor will feed and care for the animal until the buyer or other persons authorized by the Fair removes it from the fairgrounds

21.  Exhibitors wanting to show breeding does must abide by the sane rules and weight range as market goats and must be tagged at tagging date.

22.  Exhibitors can only enter and show 2 goats at the fair.

23.  The exhibitors registration form must list the goats tag number to the appropriate class.  No changing classes after registration.

24. All breeding does are released after sale on Friday night but must be picked up by 10:00 am.. 

Failure to abide by any of these rules will result in the disqualification of that individual’s animals.

1.    All Market hogs are to be owned and cared for by the exhibitor as of May 11, 2019.  Tagging of the hogs will be May 11, 2019 from 8 am to 10 am at the Frederick County Fair Grounds.  One dollar will be charged per animal tagged.  Multiple animals may be tagged but exhibitors are limited to showing two (2) market hogs.

2.    ALL GENERAL LIVESTOCK RULES WILL APPLY TO SWINE EXHIBITORS.   PLEASE READ!

3.    All market hog entries must be brought onto the Fairgrounds between 7:30 am and 12:00 noon on Fair Monday.

4.    All exhibitors are required to participate in hog showmanship classes.

5.    Market hogs will be shown by weight. All market hogs will be weighed and graded at approximately 2:00 pm on Fair Monday. Exhibitors should be present when their animal is weighed.

6.    All market hogs must weigh between 210 and 280 pounds to be eligible to sell. There will be no allowances in weight given at weigh-in time.

7.    Classes will be determined on the day of the show by weight breaks. Separate classes will be made for light hogs (less than 210 pounds) and heavy hogs (over
280 pounds). Lightweight and heavyweight hogs will not be eligible for the market animal auction. Grand and Reserve Champion Hog must be sold at the
market animal sale on Friday. There will be a $10.00 fee deducted from each animal sold to be used for hog sale publicity.

1.    Market lambs are to be owned and cared for by the exhibitor as of May 11, 2019.  Tagging of the lambs will be May 11, 2019 from 8 am to 10 am at the Frederick County Fair Grounds.   All market lambs must have their scrapie tag in their ear at the time of tagging or they will be unable to exhibit that lamb in the fair.  One dollar will be charged per animal tagged.  Multiple animals may be tagged but exhibitors are limited to showing two (2) market lambs.

9.    All market lambs will be weighed and graded at the fair on Monday afternoon. Exhibitors should be present when their animal is weighed. Lambs must weigh between 90 and 140 pounds to be sold at auction. All lambs must grade Blue-O or Red-O to be sold at auction. There will be no allowances in weight given at weigh-in time.

10. To recognize buyers, $5.00 will be retained from the proceeds of each lamb sold to purchase a newspaper advertisement and publicity.

11. Grand and Reserve Champion Market Lamb must be sold at the market animal auction on Friday.

12. The market lamb chairperson and the Fair Association livestock committee reserve the right to view exhibitor's animal from the tagging date until the opening of the fair.

13. All market lambs must be slick shorn one week prior to the show. The will be no shearing of market lambs after arrival onto the fairgrounds. All sheep must have been foot trimmed no more than 10 days before the fair.

14. All exhibitors are required to participate in showmanship classes.

15. Lifting the front feet of lambs off the ground during showmanship and market classes is not permitted. Lambs will be shown with all four feet on the ground.

16. The will be no “icing” lambs at any time during Fair Week.

17. There must be water available to all market lambs at all times during fair week.

18. There will be no drenching market lambs during fair week.

19. Market lambs will be shown by weight. Classes will be determined the day of the show.

20. Exhibitors are responsible for re-penning their lamb after the sale. The exhibitor will feed and care for the animal until the buyer or other persons authorized by the Fair removes it from the fairgrounds.
