 General Derby Rules & Regulations:

 1)  Each driver must fill-out an entry form.  They must supply their own car. Only one entry per person per class.  Participants should be at the fairgrounds for sign-up and inspection at least 1 ½ hours early.

 2)  All rules and regulations must be observed. Track officials reserve the right to approve or reject any and all entries.

 3)  All drivers 16 or 17 years old must have a release form signed by his or her parent or guardian. No one under 16 years old can drive or be in track area.  All drivers should be prepared to show valid driver’s license.

 4)  Entry fee is $30.00 per car.  Cash only. There will be no limit on the number of vehicles allowed. *Drivers and pit crew must also pay general fair admission.

 5)  Both driver and mechanic should be present when vehicle is inspected and at the drivers’ meeting held 30 minutes before event.

 6) Safety belt, helmet, goggles, safety glasses, or face shields are required. A neck brace is recommended. Long pants and long sleeve shirt or jacket are required.

 7)  Vehicle must be swept clean. No junk tires, wheels, metal parts, broken glass, etc. allowed.

 8)  All glass including windshield, side windows, rear window, head lights, and tail lights must be removed.  Winding windows down is not permitted.

 9)  Chrome molding strips and all seats, except the driver’s seat, must be removed. All carpet is to be removed.

 10)  Driver’s door must be fastened shut by wire, straps, chains, or welded. Reinforcement is allowed for driver’s safety. Reinforcement for driver’s door protection may be inside or outside the driver’s door and can extend 12 inches on either side of the driver’s door. If on outside of door, material should be tapered back to car body at end of reinforcement area. No concrete will be allowed to reinforce driver’s door.

 11)  A strong wire or nylon mesh screen is recommended in windshield area. One vertical bar or chain should be in the center of windshield opening from roof to top of fire wall.

 12)  Car numbers must be painted on both side doors. Also a 2ft x 2ft sign must be placed on the roof of the car with the same number on each side. You may pick your number provided the number is not already registered to another car.

 13)  Drivers will have 1 minute to make deliberate contact with another vehicle or will be timed out.  No intentional head-on collisions or hitting on the driver’s door.

 14)  A fire extinguisher is recommended at close reach in driver’s compartment and properly secured.

 15)  Only one battery allowed (with the exception of the 8 Cylinder Modified class). It must be placed on floorboard of the front passenger’s compartment in a box or crate. It must be securely fastened to floorboard and completely covered.

 16)  It is mandatory that an opening be cut in hood over carburetor, approximately 18 inches or larger. Hood latch mechanism must be removed. A hole, approximately 18 inches or larger, must be cut in middle of trunk lid.  Exhaust pipes through hood must extend straight up.

 17)  A vehicle will be disqualified if the driver’s door comes open during the derby.

 18)  Boundaries must be observed at all times. Any vehicle shoved or driven out of bounds or is on or over a barrier may be immediately disqualified if derby officials feel there is a safety hazard.

 19)  No vehicles are permitted in the competition area before the heat or feature in which they are to participate.

 20)  Number of heats will be determined by officials based on amount of vehicles registered per class.

 21)  Riding on outside of vehicle or passengers inside the vehicle is not permitted at any time.  This will result in automatic disqualification.

 22)  Drivers are responsible for the actions of their crew members.  Any driver or crew member disobeying the rules will cause his or her car to be disqualified.

 23)  No alcoholic beverages or illegal substances (narcotics) are allowed in pit area or on the fairgrounds. Drivers or pit crews caught drinking or engaging with illegal substances (narcotics) disqualifies their car and driver.

 24)  The Fair will not be held responsible for any cars, parts, or personal property before, during, and after the show or overnight.

 25)  If you want your car, make sure you load it on your trailer and remove it from the grounds immediately after the derby.

 26)  The total purse for the entire event will be at least $3,000.00 divided between winners of each classes’ feature.  Number of cars advancing from heats to feature will vary depending on the total number of vehicles registered in each class.

27). All vehicles must use gasoline only as fuel.


The following rules apply to 4 Cylinder, 6 Cylinder, 8 Cylinder, and Truck/SUV:

 *The Truck/SUV class must be full size truck or large SUV operating in 2wd (ensured by one driveshaft being removed).  Examples of accepted vehicles- F150, F250, Tahoe, Suburban, Bronco, and Jeep Wagoneer.  No mini vans allowed.

 1)  On a fresh car, rear end area cannot be mashed down, flattened, or crushed.

 2)  No coil to leaf conversions. All original body mounts must remain in vehicle. Rear ends may be chained. No flat stacked leaf springs.

 3)  Welded or chained down engine mounts are recommended.

 4)  Radiators must remain in original position. Comparable replacement radiators are permitted. Radiators and cooling systems must have antifreeze flushed out and only water can be added. Transmission coolers are permitted but only if they are secured inside engine compartment.

 5)  Four point driver’s protection may be used- one bar only between the A-pillars, one bar between the B-pillars, with one connecting side bar on the driver and passenger side.

 6)  No seam welding and no welding on frame or body, except doors.

 7)  Hood, trunk, or tailgate may be wired in six places each, with two strands of wire per hole. Light chains may be used. Wiring must be from sheet metal to sheet metal. No other wiring to bumpers or frames. No welds on hood, trunk, or tailgate. Officials will make decision on overuse of wire or chains. Hood and trunk must be left open until after inspection. Hood must remain on vehicles.

 8)  Stock gas tanks must be removed from original position and placed inside the car in front of rear axle and no farther forward than the rear of the front seat. A portable tank in the form of a Marine tank or fuel cell is recommended. All tanks must be securely fastened to the floor. Gas hoses and fittings to fuel tanks must be secured and leak proof. Only metal or rubber gas lines permitted. No plastic lines. All lines going through sheet metal must be covered with a larger rubber line so as not to wear a hole in the lines. A rubber grommet in each hole is okay. This will be checked by officials. Electric fuel pumps are permitted but must have shut off switch within driver’s reach. Inspection officials will give final approval on tanks and fittings. Tanks must be covered. For trucks, tank should be in bed, close to cab.  For SUVs, tank should be centered in the backseat area forward of the rear axle.

 9)  No restrictions on tire size. Double tires or liquids in tires are not permitted. No studs or screws in rims to hold tires. No valve stem protectors. No split rims. Wheel weights must be removed.

 10)  Vehicles must have dependable brakes.

 11)  The front end of your car may be reinforced within the following guidelines- All reinforcement must be kept behind the original grill and within the original sheet metal. Bars used must not exceed 2 inches in diameter. At least 50% of the radiator must be exposed to the front of the car. Bars must not extend back more than 12 inches towards the driver’s compartment. Bumpers may be from any year passenger car and attached to the car by stock hardware or late model bumper shocks.  Bumper shocks may be lightly welded, bolted, or chained.   The officials will be the judge of excess reinforcement and may require you to subtract metal as needed.


The following rules apply to 8 Cylinder Modified:

 1) Full size cars only.  For example:  limos, Imperials, hearses, etc.  2wd only.

 2)  Suspensions - You may leaf spring your car no more than 5 leaves and no wider than 3 inches. No more than 4 clamps per side. Front suspension may be locked and front bumper height no more than 24 inches from bottom of bumper to ground. Rear bumper height is to be no lower than 18 inches from bottom of bumper to ground. After market suspension parts are permitted but no excessive bracing. You may leaf spring the front of the car but must use a straight axle if doing so. No more than 5 leaves per side and no more than 4 clamps per side.

 3)  Trunk - Trunk may be pre-bent or tucked but not fully wedged. Must have at least 8 inches of clearance between trunk lid and all of floor. You can run a bar from the roof to no further than half the trunk lid. May weld trunk with straps no wider than 3 inches.

 4)  Cage - You may use door bars from dash bar all the way back to the rear fender wells. Gas tank protector can be two 2 inch bars between end of door bars and two 2 inch bars on both sides of gas tank. Roll over bars are permitted. Kickers must go from dash bar to front frame rail, just behind the A-arms.

 5)  Hood and Core support - Core support may be bolted with all thread no larger than ¾.  You can run it all the way through the hood to bolt hood down. You may chain, wire, or bolt hood down (in 6 spots).

 6)  Tires - No studded tires and no screws are allowed. Valve stem protectors, solid rims, any tire size, and foam filled double tires are all permitted.

 7)  Radiator - You must have radiator in stock position.  You may use a water barrel type radiator, and it is only to be welded in two spots on frame (not to be attached to bumper). Bottom radiator support may be a piece of angle 3x3x ¼ and must be welded to core support (not to frame or bumper in any way).

 8)  Bumpers - Any automobile type bumper may be used. Bumper may be loaded but must have bumper skin on front. Loaded section of bumper must not exceed 6 inches x 6 inches and can be no wider than body of car. You may hard nose your frame. You may weld a single plate per side of vehicle no longer than 12 inches per frame rail, no wider than frame rail, and ¼ inch thick, to be used as a bumper mount. Factory bumper mounts may be used with ¼ inch plate if not hardnosed to frame.

 9)  Rear End – Can use rear end of any make, and it can be up to 1 ton.

 10)  Body Mounts - Body mount bolts can be no larger than 5/8 inch. No extra body mount bolts. Washers will be no larger than 2 inches of plate ¼ inch thick. You may run body mount bolts through the bottom of the frame.

 11)  Body - No extra metal on body. If it is a pre ran car, you can patch sheet metal of same thickness (not to exceed 2 inches past tear in sheet metal). You may bolt fender and quarter panels.

 12)  Frame - Hump plates are permitted.  They can be no bigger than 4 inches by 2ft and ¼ inch thick. You may seam weld top and bottom front to back. No filling in of factory holes. If pre ran car and has bent frame, you may plate where it is bent with ¼ inch plate (not to exceed past bend or tear more than 1 inch). Frames must be empty and will be checked. If frame is loaded, you will have one time to go back and remove.  No welding any bars from driver’s frame rail to passenger frame rail, with the exception of engine and transmission cross members.

 13)  Distributor protectors are permitted.

 14) Transmission coolers must be mounted in engine compartment or back seat area (if covered sufficiently to protect driver).  If using separate battery for fan, it must be 12 volt, covered, and secured.
